What’s up Copy Squad!?
As a copywriter, you should always be on the lookout for powerful techniques that can advance your skills or help hone your writing process… So today, we’re diving into two game-changing copywriting methods…
Copyboarding and my very own creation, “The Beats of a Sales Letter.”
These strategies have shaped my copywriting career and have the potential to transform yours too. So, let’s dive in and explore how these techniques can supercharge your sales letters!
Copyboarding: Unleashing the Power of Collaboration
First, let’s talk about copyboarding, a method I’ve come to appreciate. It’s a collaborative approach presented to me by Joe Schrieffer back in my Agora days…
Here’s how it works…
- Craft an Irresistible Promise: Start by creating a captivating promise that grabs your reader’s attention and sets the tone for your sales letter.
- Address Objections: Gather a small group of two to three creative copywriters and brainstorm potential objections that readers might have. Write each objection on sticky notes and create a storyboard to visualize them.
- Objection-Claim-Proof-Benefit Formula: Overcome objections by using the objection-claim-proof-benefit formula. This technique involves addressing objections, providing claims, offering proof, and emphasizing the benefits of your product or service.
By adopting copyboarding, you can effectively handle objections and create persuasive sales letters that leave a lasting impact on your audience.
“The Beats of a Sales Letter”: My Brainchild
Now, let’s dive into my own creation, “The Beats of a Sales Letter.” Inspired by Blake Schneider’s screenwriting book, “Save the Cat,” this method breaks down a sales letter into three acts. Here’s the breakdown:
Act 1: The Lead
This is where you answer the fundamental question, “What’s in it for me?” To captivate your readers, introduce a pattern interrupt, establish credibility, trigger emotions, and present your unique mechanism or solution. Showing early results can build trust and keep your audience hooked.
Act 2, Part 1: How Is This Possible?
Ground your opportunity in reality by explaining the practicality and authenticity of what you’re offering. This section aims to convince readers that your proposition is real and can fulfill their desires.
Act 2, Part 2: How Do You Do This?
Here’s where you unveil your unique mechanism or approach that taps into the opportunity you’ve presented. By explaining the mechanism and highlighting its effectiveness, you satisfy readers’ curiosity and solidify their belief in your solution.
Act 3: How Do I Get Started?
In the final act, guide readers towards taking action. Present them with a compelling offer and show them how to seize the opportunity and achieve their desired outcome. This section serves as a call-to-action, motivating readers to sign up for your newsletter, make a purchase, or engage with your services.
